Friends, I am having a hectic week, but will definitely write tonight. I saw Dan Pink, author of Drive speak yesterday, and would love to share some thoughts.
Today, though, i received a note, from a wonderful and special person that I met this year. She interviewed for a position at EMG, and unfortunately we did not have a great fit currently for her skill set. I am fairly certain, I made a mistake. I believe deep down inside that when people have the right STUFF in their hearts and minds, I should hire them, because their value will awesome period. Hopefully, I will embrace this insight more with time.
Anyway, this is someone sent me a note today, that means the world to me.
It reminds me that the concept of HARMONY works! We can spread harmony to those we meet, even if its just for a moment. It takes a small moment to inspire - to help everyone around us take a small step toward who they want to be...
I am deeply touched by her note. It deepens my commitment to wake up everyday and keep trying harder to make an impact. If we can make an impact in those we meet for a moment, THINK about the impact that we can make on those that we live and work with everyday!
The opportonity and the possibilities are endless...
THANK YOU Ms. YOU KNOW WHO (I did not get her permission to write this so I thought I would leave her name out of this as not everyone likes to be out for public consumption) for taking the time to bring harmony right back to me!
Her note...
Dear Nestor,
I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and have been staying warm from all this snow! Today I discovered your blog via LinkedIn – with only a few minutes in between meetings, I found myself relating, inspired, and wanting to read more. I came home this evening, read some previous posts, and wanted to take the time to send you a short note.
As I reflected on 2013 at the start of this New Year, my career change was undeniably the biggest challenge – to leave behind colleagues who had become my friends and projects at which I had excelled in order to find new opportunities, learn new industries, and meet new people. However, I believe that the most rewarding aspect of this process was when our paths had crossed. You exemplified kindness and empathy, drive and determination, and intellect and humor during all of our interactions. A few months ago, I had attended a seminar led by one of two motivational psychologists in the world who very much reminded me of you.
Congrats on starting your blog; I trust that all is well and look forward to following!
Keep in touch,
Ms. You Know Who
THANK YOU to everyone who feels this way, whether or not you have ever said it out loud. I know I feel this way. I am inspired by those around me, by small moments and gestures, that fuel me in every moment to keep moving toward the person that I want to be and the impact that I want to make.
Make HARMONY your goal and your purpose - in pursuit of whatever goal fuels your passion.
Yours in pursuit and grateful to have this venue,
Nestor
