I always tell my boys soccer team, “BIG passes are better than little passes!”

Big passes change the game.

Big passes catch the competition off guard.

Big passes find & create new opportunity.

Little passes just pass the problem along to someone else.  They are often faced with the same challenges and pressure as you are…

And, I mean it.

BIG passes are better than little passes, and sometimes you need some little passes to find the big pass.

This morning, driving to work, I was thinking about a lot of things, big and small.  And, ultimately I fixed on the thought and the question…

“How do I hold myself accountable for living a TRUE, FULL and MEANINGFUL life?”

The question made me pause.

I read in a book last night by Jack Daly - Hyper Sales Growth.  He writes about the massive goals that he sets.  It was inspiring. He has run like 30 Iron Man triathlons, he has done a marathon in every continent except Antarctica, and is working on that one.  He has started 6 companies and taken 2 public.  He keeps setting bigger and bigger goals that are meaningful to him, and he holds himself accountable in various ways, one of which is having a “board” of soul mates that he reports to … Maybe I should try that...

How do I do it today?

How can I do it better?

My mind is always racing.  I do share my thoughts with many dear friends and soul mates.  I am in a constant conversation with myself.  Even when no one else is talking, the conversation in my head keeps rolling.  And, I am benefiting from it.

But, I do let myself off the hook all the time.

And that is one of the things that I talk to myself about, how do I embrace HARMONY to lead the most meaningful and satisfying life possible, but not allow the concept of HARMONY to make me less ambitious and rationalize a “lesser” life?

I believe the magic of harmony is in the balance between a satisfied life and the ambition for a better one.  Where there is a constant HEALTHY tension between the two.  Disharmony, comes when the tension becomes “dysfunctional”… when it leads to envy, regret, anxiety, guilt or inadequacy.

We spend our lives making little passes…  can I get home in time for dinner?  How do I fit in that additional meeting that I am supposed to have today?  Will I get a workout in?  Should I get gas before or after work?

BIG passes are better…

Am I spending enough time with my boys?

How can I help them find more motivation and satisfaction?

Am I spending enough time on my overall company strategy?

Is it ok for me to focus on execution if we are working on big strategic initiatives?

Who can help me think through this?

How long a dive is too long?

Am I deeply happy?

What do I dream about today?

Where do I feel disharmony?  Why?  How do resolve it?

BIG  passes are better…  BIG IDEAS & BIG QUESTIONS are better!

When you are in a conversation at work, when you are addressing and resolving issues, when you are talking to your colleagues, to your friends, to your parents… THINK ABOUT THE BIG PASSES and the BIG IDEAS… and MAKE THEM and SHARE THEM!!!

You need to make small passes to create the big pass.  You need little ideas and questions to be shared, to get the ball moving.  And, you need to always be looking up, and seeing how quickly you can "change fields" and make the big pass to open up the game.

Don’t let fear force you into more small passes.

Don’t let uncertainty force you into more small passes.

Don’t let laziness force you into more small passes.

KEEP LOOKING FOR THE BIG IDEAS… in your mind, in your relationships, in your business…

BIG PASSES are better than little passes…

They change your paradigm and your perspective.

They find and create new opportunity.

Yours in the pursuit of using the whole field in the spirit of HARMONY!
