What a wonderful morning for harmony!
This my friends is exactly what this concept of harmony is all about...
I see posts from friends and others with the question,
"What do I tell my children when they wake up today?"
I smile silently, and think to myself...
TELL THEM TO EMBRACE THE "IS"...
TELL THEM ABOUT HARMONY!
The candidate I voted for did not win, and there are many things that I could "wish" for this morning...
I wish things had turned out differently?
I wish everyone saw the world the way I see it?
I wish the campaigns had done something different, reacted different, messaged different?
WISHING is DISHARMONY, and there are many people feeling it this morning...
I truly do not.
I struggle and disagree with many of the values of Donald Trump, and his leadership concerns me - but what else is part of this "IS"...
There is a huge contingent in this country that has felt under-represented. And, now, they do not. This could be an important element for productive change. (I think about what could have happened had they continued to feel more and more under-represented, and that does not necessarily lead to a better place.)
The power of this country is so much greater than any one individual or President. There is a balance of power, and a process for executing the leadership. I believe in that process and that balance of power.
I believe this country needed desperate change, and I believed that an outsider was necessary to truly challenge the direction of the government. We can't afford to continue to grow our deficit and run an unbalanced economy without consequence. We can't just keep making government bigger and expect things will work out...
There is still a process for law in this country - and it will continue to work and create boundaries.
I knew this election was not an end of the divisiveness but hopefully the beginning of a new period.
I want it to be a period of better dialogue. I want it to be a period of greater understanding. I want it to be a time of smarter compromise. NONE of those things are easy, and NONE of those things speak to the trending of our culture. But, all of those things are possible.
I have always said we give the President too much credit and too much blame.
The challenge is less the president elect, and much more our divided country and mindset.
While the map at the end of the day was extremely RED... and in clear support for our new President-elect, what always amazes me is how blue and red it really is...
While it is beyond clear that the vast majority of the land preferred Trump, based on electoral votes and county votes... the final count (as of now with 91% of the votes in...) Hillary is winning the "popular" vote by about 150,000 out of 110,000,000 votes... about 0.1%!
So, our challenge yesterday, remains our challenge today...
We are a divided country...
And, we need to start to heal.
Had Hillary won -
it may have made it MUCH more difficult to bridge the divisiveness that exists within us...
We must focus on our COLLECTIVE WANT
while realizing that we will disagree on many of the details...
My candidate did not win. That is part of the "IS".
And, just like that brings downsides, it also brings real upsides...
Those are the ones that I am focused on...
And, I am focused on ME...
How do I show up, in every way, as a catalyst for the very best possible want...
For empathy,
For respect,
For collaboration,
For understanding,
For a better future...
How do I embrace the IS and move it into my WANT...
HARMONY
Move through the wishing phase...
We are at a new IS...
And now in this moment and in all others...
Take a breath...
And use everything in your power and in your being...
with respect and understanding
and move toward our want.
Feel the difference...
I hope if you struggled with what to say, when your kids went up...
Tell them to embrace the IS...
Tell them that they are NOT alone in their thoughts and their fears...
Tell them that they CAN BE part of a real solution,
not by giving up on what they believe,
but by speaking constructively and caringly to others...
and by ASKING others
what they are concerned about
what they fear...
and start by
if not fully
embracing it...
at least
understanding it...
When trying to reach harmony...
I'd rather whoever I am trying to create it with
feel it more than I...
Having those that felt most under-represented feel represented
will allow greater progress
and collaboration...
BELIEVE IN AMERICA
BELIEVE IN HARMONY
Wake up to harmony!
