A few weeks ago, I was at a friend's house and we were talking...

"I don't wan't to talk at my father's 92nd birthday party."  She says to me.

"Why NOT?" I said surprised.

"I would break down in front of everyone!" She replied.

"AND............????"  I said.

At this weekend's conference, the main speaker had on his agenda,

"Introduction:  From The Heart"...

And, when it was time to make the introduction, he said explicitly...

"I want to introduce Mr. Thayer, but I wan't to do this from the heart."

The thought that fascinated me was...

Why would you be afraid to cry in front of a gathering celebrating a great 92 year old life?

And, why is it necessary to tell people that you are speaking from the heart?

WHY WOULD YOU SPEAK FROM ANYWHERE ELSE?

Don't people already understand that

SPEAKING FROM THE HEART

is what the world wants from you.

"From the heart"

not because they want to see weakness

not because they want to see emotion

IT'S BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE REAL...

REAL IS INTERESTING

REAL ALLOWS US TO CONNECT!

CONNECTION MAKES LIFE

INTERESTING

AND WORTHWHILE

"Speaking" from the heart, allows people to

SEE YOU

to understand more clearly

WHAT YOU VALUE &

WHO YOU ARE

Which may be why it's scarier than the alternative...

But, it's also why it makes it so much more powerful.

One of the speakers at that conference was talking about his company's mission

which was founded after 9/11, and tears rolled down his face as he talked about his company.

My friend didn't want to break down for her father,

but she would talk from the heart about her support of Trump.

Regardless of your political leaning... why would you be willing to talk from the heart about politics, but not about your father?

People sometimes say that I am a good public speaker...

And, all that I try to do is be REAL...

And, to speak not just to what I believe,

but to also speak to what I feel.

WHY IS THAT SCARY?

If I was the father, and I had made it 90 something...

Nothing would mean more to me, than to hear my daughter speak from the heart...

And weep at the joy of my life and our relationship.

If I was the speaker, I would be most touched

if I was introduced by someone who felt deep and sentimental value

for our relationship...

Plus think of the alternative...

If you tell me "I want to do this from the heart",

to me at least, it makes me question

where everything else comes from ;-)

SPEAKING FROM THE HEART

is not a distinction that I EVER make...

Because I don't believe I ever speak from anywhere else.

That doesn't mean allow your emotions to control you

or your dialogue, but speak from a place of emotion...

speak inclusive of your feelings...

because your feelings are

ALWAYS a real part of the IS...

And, EVERY conversation should be part of your journey toward the WANT.

If you want to lead,

If you want to connect,

If you want to communicate,

If you want to LIVE...

Set your settings to "FROM THE HEART..."

And, never change the dial.

BE REAL

SPEAK FROM THE HEART...

HECK... GO AHEAD and LIVE EVERY MOMENT FROM THE HEART...

And, watch the world change around you...

and move toward you...

and your dreams.

In harmony,

Nestor

NOTE:  Speaking from the heart, doesn't mean let your emotions control your dialogue (though that is absolutely fine and perfect in any personal and many professional settings).  Truth is - you can't speak from the heart... you can only speak from your mind.  And, speaking from BOTH SIDES of your mind, makes the conversation complete and honest and worthwhile.
