In 1959, Bertrand Russell gave an interview.
He was an old man at the time... born in 1872. He spent his life exploring, thinking...
Until last week, I had no idea who he was.
And, I saw this interview last week on-line that made me smile deeply...
The absolute truth is the absolute truth. I do believe that HARMONY is simply my words for that truth. And, the more I listen to wisdom, the more I believe in it.
The trick is not to KNOW it... but to LIVE it ;-)
The interviewer asked Dr. Russel,
"What do you think is worth telling future generations, about the life you have lived and the lessons that you have learned from it?"
His response was so elegant,
so succinct,
and so very familiar...
"I should like to say two things, one intellectual and one moral."
He starts...
"When you are studying any matter, or considering any philosophy, ask yourself only what are the facts, and what is the truth the facts bear out?"
Some call that the "IS"... He continues...
"Never let yourself be diverted either by what you wish to believe, or by what you think would have beneficent social effects if it were believed."
"But look only, and solely, at what are the facts."
MUST START from the "IS"... not the "WISH"...
Then,
"That is the intellectual thing I should wish to say...
The moral thing I should wish to say to them is very simple…
Love is wise. Hatred is foolish."
Because LOVE begets LOVE and HATE begets HATE...
"In this world which is getting more and more closely interconnected, we have to learn to tolerate each other, we have to learn to put up with the fact that some people say things that we don’t like."
"We can only live together in that way…"
"And, if we are to live together and not die together, we must learn a kind of charity and a kind of tolerance, which is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet."
HARMONY isn't just a good idea...
It's the kind of thinking that is vital to the continuation of life on this planet...
It's so awesome, so overwhelming, so scary, so exciting, so TRUE...
Look around at all the hate, and bring every conversation that you are in, the better option...
